How it works?
The cryosauna experience begins in an individual cryotherapy chamber with an internal temperature that has been lowered to approximately -238’F to -274’F by liquid nitrogen vapors. During this process the gas lowers the body’s surface temperature from approximately 90.5’F to- about 32’F for 2-3 minutes. Thermo-receptors in the skin send signals to the brain that trigger the body’s response to release endorphins and beneficial biochemicals into the blood. The blood then becomes optimally oxygenated which accelerates beneficial results. The blood vessels and capillaries in the skin undergo a period of severe vasoconstriction followed by severe vasodilatation. This process breaks down toxins trapped in the tissues and flushes them through the vessels.
When cryotherapy was invented?
Whole Body Cryotherapy, also know as "Air Cryo Therapy", was developed by a Japanese scientist T. Yamaguchi who at the time was the first one who used cryotherapy in treating rheumatism, severe chronic form. Since then Whole Body Cryotherapy has been applied successfully all over Europe. Today in the US and in Europe there are many cryo chambers, which are generally used in fitness centers and sports clubs. Since the 1970’s, it has commonly been used as a whole body health treatment that aims to increase blood circulation, decrease inflammation, decrease pain and muscle spasms, and promote the constriction of blood vessels (vasoconstriction) using extreme temperatures. It also has the positive benefits of increasing your energy level by releasing endorphins, which help combat stress, leaving you feeling happy and energized.
What to expect?
Cryotherapy is carried out in an open vertical cabin filled with cool dry steam, up to the shoulders. Dry cold affects only the upper layers of the epidermis without deep penetrating inside, and thus tolerated by the body fairly comfortable. Before entering the cryosauna, you must first fill out a waiver that will confirm whether there are pre-existing conditions that would be a contraindication and preclude you from using cryotherapy. A robe will be provided for you to slip on before stepping into the cryochamber and off once you are inside with the door shut. Everyone who uses cryotherapy must wear protective clothing such as dry socks, shoes, and gloves: all which will be provided. Men must wear cotton underwear, although it is optional for women. All jewelry must be removed before stepping into the cryochamber. You will be standing on a platform that will raise you up above the cryochamber walls to about neck and shoulder height so only your head will be visible for the 3-minute duration. You will soon feel the effects of the liquid nitrogen vapors on your skin and the release of endorphins in your body. The whole process will be over before you know it. When your time is up, the platform will be lowered and your robe will be given back to you to put back on before you exit the cryochamber. You will instantly feel relief from aches and pains as your body’s temperature regulates itself. You may feel relaxed and energized for up to 8 hours after your first treatment. Regular treatment can decrease symptomatic and chronic pains, injuries and can help with some medical conditions.
In the cryo sauna sensation of cold is always much less than expected, and from the second procedure patients does not feel the discomfort.
